About us

We are a community association for people in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our founding idea is simple: supporting .

Our story

Te Fare Mā'ohi Nui i Aotearoa Manatōpū began with a small group of living in Auckland, sitting around a table with one question: what help is out there for living in Aotearoa?

Everyone brought something from their own life. One of us remembered being a student far from home, and how much it meant to have somewhere to turn. Some of us are raising children here and want them to grow up knowing their culture and where they come from. Some of us run businesses and could see how much stronger we would be if we knew one another. And we all knew of families who come to New Zealand for medical treatment, far from everyone they know.

What we were really describing was a house. In , means house: the place where family gathers, where you are welcomed in, fed, and never left on your own. Far from our islands, many of us had been missing exactly that.

So we set out to build one. Te Fare Mā'ohi Nui i Aotearoa Manatōpū is our house in Aotearoa, built on one idea: supporting . Everyone who comes in brings something to it, their knowledge, their connections, their time, and everyone who comes in is looked after. Three pillars hold the house up: our culture, kept alive for the next generation; our care for one another; and the doors we open to opportunity.

It is first a home for living in Aotearoa, our families, our children and the generations after them. It is a place to land for those who come for a while: students, new arrivals, and patients and their families. And the door is open to anyone who shares these aims. , .
